About The Artist

Leonard Joiner - Artist

Leonard G Joiner was born in Beverly, Massachusetts in 1943. At age three his parents moved the family to Andover, Massachusetts where he graduated from Andover High School with High Honors in Art. After high school he studied at Vesper George School of Art from 1963 thru 1965. Although he took a commercial course, he got great inspiration from Don Stone for water color classes and Robert Douglas Hunter for life and anatomy classes. He worked as an artist for a North Andover advertising company part time from his junior and senior years at high school and while attending Vesper George. In 1969 He started his 34 year tenure with Raytheon as an artist illustrator.

Since retiring in 2000 (on his 57 birthday), Lennie has followed his life long dream to be a full time fine Artist and has been drawing whatever inspires him ever since. He lives with his wife and daughter on their working farm in Methuen, Massachusetts since 1991 where they raise and grow much of their own food.

His passion from the time he was 8 years old has been drawing in graphite – which he still uses today.

“My medium is graphite drawing and my subjects are New England farm and country scenes as well as seascapes. I especially love the textures of barns, boats, trees, rocks and water.”

His style has always been a realistic view of these surroundings.

Lennie is a member of the Newburyport Art Association and past member of Rockport Art Association and the North Shore Arts Association.
